Here at Anglicans For Life®, we are always thinking about creative ways to share our Life-Affirming message, so when someone mentioned that April 8th was national Pro-Life T-shirt Day, we decided it would be fun to equip people with T-shirts bearing ‘life’ truths. We invited people to send us their favorite bible verse that honors life. In return, we gave them a special code to request one of our T-Shirts for free.
For 3 weeks, Bible verses were emailed to me and I must say it was fun to see which verses were submitted! Verses 1-17 of Psalm 139 were the most popular. Here are the top five picks from among 37 submissions:
- Psalm 139:1-17 You have searched me, Lord, and you know me. You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar. You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways. Before a word is on my tongue you, Lord, know it completely. You hem me in behind and before, and you lay your hand upon me. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too lofty for me to attain. Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence? I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there. If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast. If I say, “Surely the darkness will hide me and the light become night around me,” even the darkness will not be dark to you; the night will shine like the day, for darkness is as light to you. For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place, when I was woven together in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be. How precious to me are your thoughts, God! How vast is the sum of them!
- Jeremiah 1:5 “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.”
- Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
- Luke 1:41-44 When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the baby leaped in her womb, and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit. In a loud voice she exclaimed: “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the child you will bear! But why am I so favored, that the mother of my Lord should come to me? As soon as the sound of your greeting reached my ears, the baby in my womb leaped for joy.
- John 10:10 The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.
We also invited people to take pictures of themselves wearing their T-shirts. We are grateful for everyone’s participation, and we hope you keep wearing the message of life!
