Anglicans in Action – Call Our Nation to Repentance

We are posting this early this week, in preparation of America’s Independence Day celebration on the fourth of July!

Sadly as our great nation has aged, we have stepped away from the ideals that our country was built on. We now have a society that promotes and fights for abortion on demand; we have a nation that is more concerned about winning politically than it is about flourishing the hearts of its people. We live in a nation that has taken the definition of “freedom” and warped it into a selfish ideal that it was never meant to be. In the process, Abortion has taken a terrible toll on America. We’ve now lost more than 60 million of our sons, daughters, grandchildren, friends, and neighbors and I truly believe we are a poorer nation because of it.

I was reflecting on two Scriptures that prompted this week’s action idea.

In Jeremiah 22:3 we read: “This is what the Lord says: Do what is just and right. Rescue from the hand of the oppressor the one who has been robbed. Do no wrong or violence to the foreigner, the fatherless or the widow, and do not shed innocent blood in this place.”

Then, in 2 Chronicles 7:14 we read: “If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.”

So this week our action idea is to take time to repent as a nation during the prayers of the people in your church services. We have written a special litany for you to use because we recognize the importance of praying for repentance within the culture of death we’ve created. You can find the litany on our website.   It’s titled the litany for repentance.

Our prayer is that we would do what is just and right, protecting life and valuing it, just like God does. We rejoice knowing that God promises to heal every broken part of not only our nation, but the entire world, when we humble ourselves and show our need for His restoration. Abortion is a direct assault upon human life – individual human beings uniquely created in the image of God.

We pray for our nation, that we’d come to remember and recognize our true identity and begin to value life once again.
