Are you passionate about life issues? Do you desire to serve the church and uphold the sacredness of life? If you’ve thought about how to take action for life and haven’t been able to do so yet, I am so glad you’ve decided to tune in for this week’s action idea. We know that this is a common issue, so Anglicans for Life has established a community of like-minded servants that can turn your passion into action!

A life leader is a person, ordained or lay, who serves as a conduit between Anglicans for Life and their church. He or she must have a passion for upholding the sacredness of life and a willingness to be a leader. Now, it’s important to recognize that leadership can take various forms, but leaders should have common characteristics. Leaders must be able to express clearly what needs to be done, express their vision of a desirable future in simple language, be persistent in continuing to challenge that vision, and know how to handle conflicts in a healthy, faith-filled manner.

So, what does it look like to be a leader for life? Being a Life Leader with AFL starts with two simple steps:

1. Distributing AFL’s quarterly newsletter, Carpe Diem in your church, and

2. Holding one life-affirming activity every year. The vision for this event can vary and depend greatly on the community that you are in and it can be either beginning-of-life or end-of-life focused.

Life Leaders use the resources and tools provided by Anglicans for Life to educate, inspire, and motivate others. AFL strives to provide hundreds of ideas and dozens of resources to help and guide the efforts of Life Leaders and serve them as they serve the cause of Life.

If this sounds like something that interests you, we encourage you to start with prayer and self-evaluation. Pray for God’s guidance and discernment, seeking to understand the Lord’s call on your life. Ask yourself questions like: How strong is my walk with the Lord? Do I feel called by God to this ministry? How are my leadership skills? Do I have time for this commitment? I’d love to talk with you about life leadership once you’ve done that self-evaluation. As you continue to pray and move forward, it’s important to note that you’ll need approval from your priest or Vestry. We recognize that the overall church leadership must be willing to support and offer you guidance as you begin leading a ministry within your church.

To apply to be a Life Leader, use our contact form at anglicansforlife.org/contact or reach out to our office directly at 412-749-0455.

We encourage you to begin praying how the Lord is calling you out of your comfort zone and into something greater that will bring light to how much He values life in a society that is constantly embracing death.

Words Matter in Advocating

Words matter. This article reminds us of the importance of words. When we use the
wrong words to describe a despicable action, people can be fooled into thinking
they support something good, when in reality if you support “reproductive
freedom” and “reproductive rights,” you are supporting the dismemberment
or poisoning of an unborn baby in the safety of the womb.
