Each week AFL posts an Anglicans in Action video, which gives practical suggestions, resources, and ideas for life-ministry. This week’s focus is on 40 Days for Life. You can see all the Anglicans in Action videos on our YouTube Channel.

This week we are highlighting the 40 Days for Life Campaign as a way to actively participate in the pro-life movement in your local community. If you’ve never heard of 40 Days for Life, here’s your opportunity!

Since launching in 2007, 750,000 volunteers in 769 cities and 50 nations have played a part in saving 14,643 babies at abortion clinics. 96 abortion centers have been closed and 177 abortion workers have quit the industry because of the campaign.

As you can see from the statistics, 40 Days for Life is the largest internationally coordinated pro-life mobilization in history. Their goal is to help communities end the injustice of abortion through three outlets: prayer and fasting, community outreach, peaceful vigil. The mission of the campaign is to bring together the body of Christ with the purpose of repentance, to seek God’s favor to turn hearts and minds from a culture of death to a culture of life, thus bringing an end to abortion.

Prayer is at the heart of 40 Days for Life. This is a great way to unite the body of Christ around a common goal, and a fun way to include people of all ages in your church to participate in a life-affirming activity! When children, teenagers, and adults come together and stand for life, we are showing a picture of the Kingdom of God uniting for justice.

Here are some key topics that you can pray for:

• Women who are risk of abortion and their unborn children
• Men and women who carry the pain of a past abortion experience
• Workers at Planned Parenthood facilities and abortion centers
• Local, regional, and national leaders of abortion businesses
• Revival in our churches to protect the sanctity of life

Another idea would be to participate in one of the peaceful 40 Days for Life prayer vigils that happen non-stop, round-the-clock outside abortion facilities in your community. If you do not have an abortion facility or Planned Parenthood office in your town, you can still conduct 40 Days for Life; however, you will need to select a different location which has some strategic significance – perhaps near city hall, a courthouse, or a highly visible intersection.

The next campaign begins September 26 and runs through November 4. To find a campaign near you, you can 40 Days for Life’s website. This feature on their site will allow you to search by state and see how you can be involved.
