A recent headline, “Democrats Introduce Bill to Legalize Abortions Up to Birth Nationwide,” caught my attention and made me ask, “Why has killing babies become so important?”
Given the number of truly pressing issues our country faces, such as crime and inflation, why would the U.S. House of Representatives reintroduce legislation that has failed twice in the Senate during the last session?
Why is it so important for our elected representatives to pass this bill? In fact, when you consider that since Roe was overturned last June, 22 states have restricted access to abortion to 6 weeks or have banned abortion completely. That leaves 28 states that still allow women to abort their children with limits that vary between 20-24 weeks, viability, third trimester, or with no restrictions – which basically allows for abortion up through birth1. Clearly, women still have access to abortion. So why do we need a national law to kill babies?
When did children, born, and unborn become an enemy that requires legislation to protect women from giving birth to them? Our country is using critical resources, including time and money, in an effort to pass laws that not only allow us to kill babies in the womb but also deny them medical care if, by some chance, they happen to survive the abortion.
Ironically, many pro-life groups are calling this legislation the Abortion Without Limits Up to Birth Act because it would allow a woman to abort her baby at any time up to birth. This Act would;
- Repeal bans on sex-selection abortions.
- Ban parental consent laws designed to protect minors.
- Ban informed consent laws, denying women facts about the health risks associated with abortion.
- End the ban on partial birth abortions.
- Force taxpayers to fund abortion.
- Force doctors, nurses, and Catholic hospitals to perform abortions or lose their job or license.
- Expand access to abortion drugs through pharmacies and by mail nationwide.
- Protect people who take minors across state lines for abortions.
While many of these limits were designed to protect the mother, the fact is that all of these safeguards will be intentionally removed to ensure the destruction of unborn babies. In a world where we are so focused on persecuted and oppressed people groups, pro-aborts are quick to do that very same thing to unborn babies. Unfortunately, if this legislation is passed, unborn babies will intentionally become an endangered species.
Why do some people believe that women need a “fundamental right” to abortion nationwide? Given how many times this legislation has failed to pass both houses, why not author a bill that would empower women to have their children? How about writing a bill that covers the medical costs of prenatal care and delivery or childcare coverage for university students?
Instead, the type of legislation that allows abortion up until birth sends the message that motherhood is bad, and having children is a crime perpetuating climate change.
In the June 2022 issue of the Carpe Diem newsletter, I shared a picture of a billboard that said Stop Having Kids. This was as an extreme example of where a pro-abortion mentality leads – but sadly this type of messaging is gaining support amongst those who support abortion.
Anti-natalism is growing among Millennials, and while they say they don’t hate children; they see no value in them. Take this excerpt from the Stop Having Kids website as an example of this growing anti-natalism movement.
Stop Having Kids is not about hating on young humans, but rather looking out for them by preventing them from coming into existence in the first place and by inspiring individuals to consider helping kids who are already here. Sadly, a great deal of humans who hate other humans still have kids anyway (biologically or non-biologically). Kids who are alive deserve a safe and thriving world and to be free from all forms of abuse and discrimination; a world in which they can become the fullest potential of who they are. Therefore, we believe kids should not be needlessly brought into this increasingly unsafe, collapsing, and repressive world that’s eternally stained with a vast array of human rights abuses wherever humans exist. We don’t want kids to suffer and we don’t want new kids to add to the suffering of others. Birthing a kid into existence is not an act of love in and of itself, but helping existing kids who are in need is indeed an act of love; that’s the message SHK wants everybody to understand.

If you have ever wondered what a post Judeo-Christian world would look like, this anti-natalism philosophy and legislation like the Abortion Without Limits Up to Birth Act reveals where we are heading – a world where babies are seen as the enemy to our happiness instead of a reason for happiness.
To me, this sounds like a world without hope.
