“The heavens proclaim his righteousness, and all the peoples see his glory.”
The ultimate foundation for our moral beliefs is the character and will of God, which is made known supremely through Jesus Christ and in Scripture. Knowing God is not merely to know things about him, such as his character, but also to experience his presence and power. To know God is to be transformed by him. Our knowledge of God is as a result of God’s revelation of himself.
The righteousness of God is an aspect of God’s nature which expresses his unique moral perfection and his readiness to save sinners. God reveals this aspect of His character to us mainly through the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Scripture identifies Jesus Christ as involved in the work of creation, and relates this to his work in redemption, by which a new creation is brought out of the ruins of the old.
Jesus Christ’s work of new creation in the life of a believer involves repudiating an old life and embracing a new one. The image is the process of taking off fraying clothes and putting on new ones. This process of surrendering and entering into the arms of Jesus’ embrace is how we can experience his presence and power. As our intimacy with God grows so does our desire to worship and pray to Him. We are transformed by the power of His love for us and have the opportunity to reflect the character and will of God.
