Anglicans in Action – Becoming a Chapter Leader
Last week, our action idea was to pray about becoming a life leader. As a refresher, a life leader is a person, ordained or lay, who serves as a conduit between Anglicans for Life and their church. Check out Week 19’s video on our YouTube channel to learn more about this opportunity. This week, we are looking at becoming a Chapter Leader.
In addition to being a life leader, there is another opportunity to lead life-affirming ministry and take action for the sanctity of life. Developing a formal community to bring together like-minded individuals is something that we encourage strongly, so we’ve developed AFL “chapters” across the country; a chapter is formed when a church has several people who are actively committed to promoting life through ministry, education, and advocacy.
Chapters are encouraged to establish an action plan and see themselves as a mission outreach opportunity for their Church. Chapters have a Chapter Leader, who serves as the link between the chapter members and AFL.
A Chapter Leader has the role of planning and organizing one chapter event quarterly, regularly communicating with Chapter members, and distributing AFL’s quarterly newsletter, Carpe Diem, to the congregation.
If this sounds like something that interests you, we encourage you to start with prayer and self-evaluation. Pray for God’s guidance and discernment, seeking to understand the Lord’s call on your life. Ask yourself questions like: How strong is my walk with the Lord? Do I feel called by God to this ministry? How are my leadership skills? Do I have time for this commitment? I’d love to talk with you about life leadership once you’ve done that self-evaluation. As you continue to pray and move forward, it’s important to note that you’ll need approval from your priest or Vestry. We recognize that the overall church leadership must be willing to support and offer you guidance as you begin leading a ministry within your church.
The first step to becoming a Chapter Leader is to contact Anglicans for Life to request a Chapter Formation packed. To get one, use our contact form or reach out to our office directly at 412-749-0455.
